Setting different sidebar layouts per component

This feature allows you to set the default inner and outer layouts for each of your installed components.

Definitely one of Morph's unsung heroes, this feature really gives you unparalleled flexibility in developing your sites different layouts. Being able to have completely different sidebar layouts depending the current component on is something that has never been done before in Joomla.

How to use this feature

Simply login to your Joomla administration and go to Configurator. In the "General > Component Defaults" tab and set the inner and outer sidebar defaults for each of the components you wish to customize.

Component Defaults

The term "inner and outer layouts" refers to the widths and positions (left or right) of the two sidebars.

Understanding the cascade

It's important that you understand how the sidebar defaults cascade works, one will override the other based on where they come in the cascade.

  1. Global defaults (set in the "Building Blocks > Inner Sidebar / Outer Sidebar" tabs)
  2. Component defaults (will override global defaults for that specific component)
  3. Page class suffix (will override global defaults and component defaults for the specific page you've applied the page class suffix to)
